Little House on the Prarie...Review
Stephanie and I went to the Saturday evening performance of "Little House on the Prarie". Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura during the TV series was the "star". I was expecting a Broadway show based on the TV show. Boy, was I wrong. While the characters names were the same, the storyline was so loosly based on the TV or the books that I was left wondering if I had dropped down a rabbit hole. Almonzo was an underage boy who lied to get his land grant. Laura never followed rules and was more interested in doing things with and like Pa than anything else. Mary was a goody two shoes who was constantly telling everyone that as the oldest sister, she should be able to make Laura behave. Laura became a teacher for the sole purpose of earning money for Mary to go to blind school. If all of that weren't bad enough, Ma (Melissa Gilbert) can't dance, sing or really act for that matter. Interestingly enough, while the Civic Center was packed for the first act of the show, there were quite a few seats open for the second half. The highlight of the show was the performance by Nelly Olson ( Kate Loprest) . She was so animated and funny. She received the loudest ovation at the end of the show. While I am always thrilled to see a live show, I am glad that this was just part of my season tickets and I did not pay extra for them. I won't go out of my way to see this one again. Hopefully, the rest of the season will be better than the start of the season.
